When will my transfer post?

On business days, an internal transfer will post on the same day if it is initiated by the cutoff time for same day processing. Otherwise, the transfer will post on the next business day. The same day processing deadline and availability of funds vary by type of transfer, as listed in the table below.

Type of transfer

Cutoff time for same day processing

When transfers are processed and account balances are updated...

ACH transfer

3 p.m. CST

If you initiate the transfer before 3 p.m., the transfer will be posted the next business day.

If you initiate the transaction between 3 p.m. and 12 midnight, the transfer is posted in two business days (today's date plus two business days).

When you transfer money to another institution via ACH, your account balance is updated the business day before the settlement date. When you initiate an ACH credit, your account balance is updated on the settlement date.

Wire transfer

2 p.m. CST

If submitted by 2 p.m. CST, wire transfers are processed the same day. If the transfer is submitted after 2 p.m., it will be processed on the next business day.

Transfer between deposit accounts

7 p.m. CST

Transfers before 7 p.m. CST on business days are processed when requested. The available balances for both accounts are immediately updated when you request the transfer.

Transfers requested on non-business days or after 7 p.m. CST will be processed the next business day. The available balances for both accounts are updated by approximately 6 a.m. CST the next day.

Payment from banking deposit accounts to loan accounts

7 p.m. CST

Transfers before 7 p.m. CST on business days are processed when requested. The available balance for the deposit account is immediately updated when you request the transfer.

Transfers requested on non-business days or after 7 p.m. CST will be processed the next business day.

Advances on credit line accounts to banking deposit accounts

7 p.m. CST

Transfers before 7 p.m. CST on business days are processed when requested. The available balance for the banking deposit account is immediately updated when you request the transfer. The loan account balance is updated the next business day, typically by 6 a.m. CST.

Transfers requested on non-business days or after 7 p.m. CST will be processed the next business day.

Northern Funds purchases, exchanges, or redemptions

3 p.m. CST for Equity and Fixed Income Funds

1 p.m. CST for Money Market Funds

Transactions occur the same business day if the transfer request is made before 3 p.m. CST for Equity and Fixed Income Funds, and before 1 p.m. CST for Money Market Funds. Transactions received on non-business days or after cutoff times will be processed the next business day.

The balances for both accounts will be updated the next day, typically by 6 a.m. CST.

Transfers to or from Brokerage linked accounts

12 noon CST

These transfers are processed in the evening each business day.

Scheduled or recurring transfers

N/A

These transfers are processed at approximately 4 a.m. CST on the specified date. If the specified date is a non-business day, the transfer will be processed on the previous business day.
