memo post
A bank's process of indicating known transactions against
an account to determine the current available balance. Memo
posting an amount does not actually cause that amount to be added or deducted
from an account. The amount of a transaction is
temporarily added to or subtracted from the current available balance until
the nightly processing at which time the transaction is scheduled to post the
next business day. This process helps prevent
an account from being overdrawn when transactions are known to be pending.
